Surgical Errors

Our Legal And Medical Experience Can Help

Even the most minor surgery is an incredibly delicate procedure that requires skill, precision and concentration. When a surgeon is inexperienced, under the influence, drowsy, or simply careless, he or she can severely injure a patient and cause injuries. Sometimes this results in disability or even death. Most surgical errors are preventable, and when surgeons fail to follow standards of care, we hold them accountable.

There are varying types of surgical errors. Common types include:

Cosmetic Surgery Malpractice

Deciding to go under the knife for any reason is a personal choice that should be handled with care and skill on behalf of the doctor performing it. The most common types of cosmetic surgery include:

  • Body Contouring: Tummy tucks, liposuction and Gynecomastia treatment
  • Contouring of the Face: Rhinoplasty ("nose jobs"), chin or cheek enhancement (implants, cheekbone shaves)
  • Breast Augmentation: Lifts and reductions
  • Facial Rejuvenation: Eyelid and facelifts, brow lifts, neck lifts
  • Skin Treatments: Botox, fillers, laser treatments

Many of the areas that these surgeries are performed on are incredibly sensitive, as is the patient's attitude about receiving them. Patients deserve to have their experience be secured and taken care of by a skilled and competent surgeon. Without that in place, they can become disfigured, suffer medical complications, and extreme emotional distress. None of these constitute proper medical care.

Unnecessary Surgery

On occasion, doctors may suggest or pressure patients into procedures that are unnecessary and may even have adverse effects. Or they may perform a surgery based on a misdiagnosis or other misinterpretation of medical information. Millions of unnecessary surgeries are performed yearly, with devastating consequences. In order to perform a surgery, there must be a proven medical need for it. Without this, the procedure should NOT be performed.

A standard of care must be followed in surgical proceedings, and informed consent must be given. If you went under the knife for a procedure that was not medically indicated, you may be entitled to compensation. To determine this, you need a skilled malpractice attorney. Don't delay, call our firm to evaluate your case.

Anesthesia Malpractice

A deadly error, anesthesia malpractice can result in serious injuries due to a lack of oxygen to the brain or a cardiac event. Anesthesiologists hold a patient's life in their hands, and are trusted to sedate them properly during a procedure. They must be mindful of allergies and adverse reactions and carefully monitor the patient for any complications. Otherwise, a serious injury could result.
